Once upon a time, in 1996, a woman named Jenefer Palmer and her daughter Melissa set out to share the healing power of the sea with seaweed-infused products founded on purity, quality and efficacy. Before long, OSEA became a leading clean beauty brand in the cosmetics industry, before the term “clean beauty” even existed. For 30 years, the beauty world has constantly chased trends, but our commitment to pure, potent seaweed and clinically backed results you can sea® has remained the same. To celebrate our 30th anniversary, we’re looking back on the skincare breakthroughs and icons that defined each decade.
1996
Like a facial in a bottle, the original OSEA pH-balanced “seaweed cleanser” also uses lactic acid to gently exfoliate without stripping. Mineral-rich Undaria seaweed hydrates and leaves a radiant, refreshed complexion that’s primed to absorb the serums and moisturizers that follow. Plus, the bright citrus blend of lime and bergamot with notes of sweet jasmine is completely transporting.
2010
Undaria Algae™ Body Oil set a new industry standard for clean, effective body care. Clinically shown to improve moisturization and skin elasticity after just one use, it has truly earned its reputation as “liquid gold.” The iconic, uplifting Undaria citrusy fragrance, beloved by editors and our community alike, would go on to inspire an entire Undaria body-care collection and fragrance oil with the same signature scent.
When developing the formula, our founder Jenefer channeled decades of experience formulating clean, clinically tested skincare into the creation of an innovative seaweed-infused body oil, powered by hand-harvested Undaria seaweed.
Undaria is soaked in barrels of nourishing botanical oils, including passion fruit, açaí, babassu, and rice bran, to infuse every drop with skin-loving vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and nutrients. Fun fact: Our seaweed gives the oil its distinctive hue, which shifts from golden to deep emerald with each harvest.
2016
When Jenefer launched our bestselling Hyaluronic Sea Serum, hyaluronic acid (HA) serums were just beginning to gain traction. She wanted to create a formula that featured high and low molecular weights of HA to work synergistically to boost hydration and deliver multi-level moisturization. It was equally important to her to find a way to include our superfood seaweed to replenish the skin’s natural moisture levels. She worked with cosmetic chemists to create a clinical-grade product that was shown to improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles after just one use.* The result is a first-of-its-kind seaweed and hyaluronic acid serum and one of the standouts of our professional skincare line, used in spa treatments around the world.
